An Important Message

Hello Winona Woods,

We’re writing this month due our concern with what appears to be a rise in the number of small thefts in our neighborhood, specifically, from vehicles. Those of you who are on our Neighborhood Watch Mailing list already know that our Winona Watch Chair, Mike Ratigan has been working hard to push out incident reports as quickly as possible. However, since this trend continues to present an ongoing threat to our neighborhood, the WWNA Board decided it would be best to utilize the Winona Woods Master Distribution List to alert the entire association.

Over the past few weeks Winona Woods has learned of small thefts in our neighborhood from residents reporting directly to our neighborhood watch, through the Irondequoit Police Department Daily Updates as well as via other Irondequoit Facebook Groups. These reports indicate thefts have occurred on the following Winona Woods streets: Chapel Hill (2), Sachem Way, Chestnut Hill, Pontiac, Belcoda and Wicklow as well as nearby Somershire. We do not believe this to be an exhaustive list, but we will continue working to try to procure one to share with residents from the police department directly.

Moving Forward:

We need everyone’s help to thwart these crimes and the easiest way to do that is for all of us to remember to remove any valuables from our vehicles. Additional tools which may hinder break ins are leaving an outside light on, locking your car and/or parking in a garage. It would also be helpful for you to remind your neighbor to do the same before you turn in for the night.

Should the unfortunate circumstance arise that something happens to you. It is extremely important that you call and report this to the Irondequoit Police Department. Afterwards, it would be great if you would also share with Mike at Winonawoodswatch@gmail.com so that we can keep everyone in the loop. Yet, we need to be clear; reporting to Winona Watch is not a substitute for reporting to the police.

Though we felt this was an important message due amount of thefts currently occurring, we work hard to respect your inbox. Therefore, the association master will not be used regulatory to share Winona Watch concerns, if you would like to continue to get updates I’d recommend you consider one or all of the following opportunities.

1.) Sign up for automatic, instant alerts on Crimereports.com This free service maps reported crimes near you and once incidents are posted by the IPD will send automatic email alerts as well as enable a map overview of all past postings.

2.) Join our Winona Watch email list here or send Mike an email at winonawoodswatch@gmail.com. This service is managed by our own Winona Watch. With a 24 to 48 hour turn around time its not quite as quick as the others but, It does comprehensively report all trends, tips and alerts we are aware of or have been gathered by Mike from Crimereports, IPD Updates or even direct reports from Winona Woods residents.

3.) Sign up for the Irondequoit Police Department Updates. This service is managed by the IPD, it reports selected incidents from the entire town.

For those not online we ask for your help as well as the support of our Street Captains to share this message.

Thank you for your continued vigilance
