Each month Winona Woods recognizes an ordinary person who does extraordinary things. This month’s You Rock comes from Chris Erne and goes out to the Smith Family.

Chris writes:

I would like to recognize Ian and Alison Smith along with their 3 sons Ben , Zach and Josh.

Since we moved here in2002 , Ian and Alison have always been active within our community whether it be Irondequoit , The city of Rochester or Monroe County. For years they have been involved in the Clean Sweep in which they volunteered their time to clean up areas in and around the city. They also have been active in the Boy Scouts. With all of their boys being scouts at one time or another , Ian always seems to be doing a project to benefit their cause. From building camping hutches to store food and utensils to taking pieces of wood and building a new game for their game tent during the 4th of July festivities at the town hall. Ian , Alison and Josh were also part of the Invigorate Irondequoit spring clean up / tree planting event.

Josh whom is 13 years old , is a chip off his father’s shoulder. He is a big help to us as well as our other neighbors especially in the snowy winter months. Josh is a true professional with a snow blower. Always quick to respond especially when just after someone has just shoveled their driveway and the plow comes by to block the end with the wet and heavy stuff.

My latest dilemma in which Ian was called on and saved the day had to do with a snake in our backyard. After hearing the commotion between me and my kids , Ian showed up to save the day. He was able to grab it ( eventually ) and relocate it to another area of the neighborhood.

Whether it be lending a tool or a hand , having insight or an answer to a question or just being there to converse and catch up on our lives , We truly appreciate the Smiths.

OK Smith Family, now it’s your turn to recognize someone else! You have 30 days to write contact@winonawoods.com with your nomination, an image and three reasons that a fellow Winona Woods resident rocks!
