Street Tree Inventory Volunteers Needed!

Inventory Image

In order to help keep Winona Woods beautiful the Neighborhood Association is conducting a Street Tree Inventory. As a part of this process we will be collecting the type, circumference, location and health of each tree within our boundaries.

This information will be compiled and then analyzed in order to provide the important data needed to apply for a New York State Department of Environmental Services grant  to help with the following :

  • Replace overgrown or unsafe trees
  • Infill gaps in the street canopy
  • Increase the variety of trees to mitigate the impact of future pests and diseases
  • Vary the age of the tree population
  • Provide numerous environmental benefits to the community

You may have already seen us on your streets but we are only about halfway done and we are looking for a volunteer (or volunteers) who can help us finish up. Gathering the information is done in pairs (one to measure and one to record) and  everyone would receive a quick training on how to complete the inventory before we begin. This task can be completed at your pace but it generally takes about 20 minutes to complete a street when working with a partner.

327 trees have already been cataloged but we need help to finish off Pontiac, Parkside, Wicklow, Titus as well as parts of Winona, St. Paul and Belcoda.

If you can lend a hand please email us at contact@winonawoods.com
